Weekend Preview and Weekly Review

Opening in theaters:

Enders Game

Ender's Game

I was talking with my brother in law about this film last night.  He said he was a fan of the book and after he explained it to me I felt like I had some interest in seeing it.  Looks like a decent sci-fi thriller.

Free Birds

Free Birds

Animated adventure with the voice work of Woody Harrelson, Owen Wilson and Amy Proehler.  I am shocked that thi one has not been on my kid radar and I have seen very little pub about it.

Last Vegas

Last Vegas

Bunch of old timers in this one: Michael Douglas, Robert De Niro, Kevin Kline (blast from the past) and Morgan Freeman.  I guess they throw a bachelor party for the one remaining single guy in their core of long time friends.

The Immigrant

The Immigrant

Jeremy Renner and Joaquin Phoenix star in this film, putting these two together in a film has certainly piqued my interest.  Probably a limited release so you have to live in artsy places to catch this one I think.  Getting good reviews out of the gate.

About Time

About Time

Time travelling love story, or for most of us a snooze fest. Rachel McAdams has a stronghold on time travelling love interests.

Dallas Buyers Club

Dallas Buyers Club

Been waiting for this one to be released as this is looking like a great film.  Stars Matthew McConaughey,  Jared Leto,  Jennifer Garner,  and Dallas Roberts and looks like another good choice for McConaughey and I am wondering if he has turned the corner in his acting career.  The last couple of films he has been in were great.

Other films of interest opening this week: Krrish 3, Mr. Nobody, Man of Tai Chi, Diana, The Perverts Guide to Ideology, Big Sur, Nosotros Los Nobles, The Broken Circle Breakdown, Underdogs, and Casting By.

I have to tell you that there are so many films that look really good being released, I will never be able to keep up with these but man what a week.

Box Office:

Jackass: Bad Grandpa(32.1 mil.) takes over the top spot and dethrones Gravity(20.1 mil.), what does that say about our society?  Third place goes to Captain Phillips (11.6 mil.)

Content we created:

I had already released a recap of all of our Halloween films covered over the last month so I will exclude them from this post.  This week Sean Daly did a nice write up on Before Midnight, the third installment of this series.  Scott updated us on what was New on DVD this week and Adam showed us some new trailers in his segment Trailer Trash Tuesdays.

Upcoming events:

Today we will announce the winner of our $25 movietickets.com gift card to one of our lucky Facebook followers.  I believe this weekend we will have a full 3guy review of The Counselor and as always we will await what Joe has for us from the Bargain Bin.  I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate the Boston Red Sox on an impressive World Series win, we are all Sox fans at 3guys and it was a surprise to us that we got to celebrate a WS Championship this year.  Fear the Beard.

Movie News:

The Addams Family

Looks like this one is in the reboot phase as there will be a release of an animated version of this film.  A reboot was rumored a few years ago but this one has a script writer and is a go.

Lego Film

After the success of the video games Lego Star Wars, Lego Indiana Jones and so on there is now a Lego film.  My kids have already started to talk about this and are looking forward to seeing it.  Below you will find it’s new trailer.

Star Wars

Although the news of the upcoming Star Wars films are slow we do have this; a blooper reel from Episode IV for you to enjoy.

Famous Movie Quote:

Frankenstein 1932

It’s alive!  It’s alive!

I read Ender’s Game too, one of my favorite books. I am eager to see this on the big screen. Looks real promising.

I have never read Enders Game but the more I read about it the more I want to see it, I am wondering if that is our film of the week or we are going to see About Time?

Ender’s Game is an amazing novel, but what really sells it is the ending. We’ll see if it can capture the magic in a two-hour film. The Addams Family movie makes sense since it was based on a hilarious comic strip and could be bigger than ever. Sweet post Scotty.

Thanks Maurice, sometimes those book to films just miss the point, hoping this is not the case with Enders. Been 20 years since the Addams Family movie so I think with the success of Paranorman and the likes it is a good time to strike. Maybe next year around Halloween?

Nothing I really care too much about releasing this week. I’ll end up seeing Ender’s Game with my friend, but really, I’m just glad that that damn About Time trailer will finally stop playing before each and every single movie I see from here on out. Also, one of the theaters in town is actually getting that Krrish 3 movie, lol. Dunno quite what to make of that one. :P

Really interested in your guys’ thoughts on The Counselor, especially considering the absolute evisceration its receiving just about everywhere else (it’s currently in my Top 5 favorites of 2013 after a second viewing, but I’m in the vast minority on that view).
