Tremendous Trailer Trash Tuesday Trailers January 29th 2013

This Tuesday feels a lot like a Monday.  I think it’s all this cold weather.  Could it warm up already?  I am more than ready for some quality beach time.

Olympus Has Fallen:  Gerard Butler stars in this film about a former secret service agent who fights to save the President after he is captured by terrorists.  Well at least this is not another lame rom-com from Butler.  Looks like a cross between Die Hard and The Sum of all Fears or maybe that’s just cause I see Morgan Freeman is co-starring.  The White House gets remolded on March 22nd.

The Prototype:  A new type of humanoid drone escapes from a government facility and Neal McDonough tries to track it down.  Is it just me or does that prototype look a lot like Kroenen from Hellboy?  Supposedly this film is currently in post-production but I do not have a release date for you.

Pacific Rim:  Idris Elba stars in this film by Guillermo del Toro.  Giant monsters  fighting giant robots where does the line start for the first showing.  Charlie Day  of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Ron Pearlman co-star, as if you needed anymore reason to see this film.   Look for Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla to open at a theater near you on July 12th.

So I think we can all agree that we are going to check out Pacific Rim when it is released.  However do you think The Prototype and Olympus has fallen will also be worth checking out?

HA! Love that Peanuts pic! That’s awesome!

Phobos pointed out “The Prototype” to me, I told him it reminded me too much of a video game. :( We’ll see, maybe it will be good.

Meanwhile, Pacific Rim just keeps looking awesomer and awesomer, huh? :D

  • Adam January 29, 2013, 10:30 am

I am pretty sure that is the name of a video game, not that we would know with our Skyrim and or COD addictions.

There’s a reason I’m not a Gerard Butler fan any more, and this Olympus movie certainly isn’t gonna make me sprint to the theaters to see it. The dialog is terrible, it’s what I’d expect from Roland Emerich but he’s doing THE OTHER ‘die hard in the white house’ movie!

    • Adam January 29, 2013, 11:06 am

Ruth, wait there is another die hard in the white house film coming out? How did i miss noticing that awesomeness?

I watched that Bond doc on Netflix last night, thanks for the recommendation. :-)

Pacific Rim looks pretty good, I’m definitely going to see that.

Reminds me a lot of watching those old monster movies on UHF back when I was a kid.

  • scottydynamite January 29, 2013, 2:33 pm

Pacific Rim looks like the best of the lot but I also thought Prototype looked a little interesting.

    • Adam January 31, 2013, 11:01 am

Giant Robots VS Giant Monsters who would not want to see that? Will it actually be any good? That is another question entirely.

  • mummbles January 29, 2013, 2:43 pm

pacific rim seems to be getting a lot of attention but doesnt seem to have a single original idea in the entire movie. I am tired of CGI vs CGI (Transformers!). I mean sure I will see it but just saying…oh and am I the only person who think del Toro is overrated?

    • Adam January 31, 2013, 12:01 pm

Mummbles, I hear what you are saying about CGI monsters but I hope this is not some sort of Michael Bay explosion fest. I don’t know if I would say del Toro is overrated I enjoyed Cronos, those two Hellboy films and Pan’s Labyrinth. Do I consider him a great director? Probably not, but I do think he brings an interesting aesthetic to his films.

  • Pete January 30, 2013, 12:21 pm

Well up for Pacific Rim and Olympus has Fallen, not sure about the other. To be fair I agree with mummbles a bit as well about Pacific Rim. It looks fun but I suspect it may not be del Toro’s best.

    • Adam January 31, 2013, 12:05 pm

Pete all three of these films have the possibility to be terrible. I am thinking that Pacific Rim could be the best of the bunch. I hope he manages to balance the monster/robot battles with some actual plot and depth of character but we shall see.

  • Tim The Film Guy January 30, 2013, 1:36 pm

I am going to literally beat people to the first place to see Pacific Rim!

Don’t care about Fallen but Prototype looks cool :D

    • Adam January 31, 2013, 12:08 pm

Tim you sound like a man with a few classic Godzilla films under his belt.

  • Sir Phobos January 30, 2013, 7:33 pm

    Prototype = yes
Olympus has Fallen = no (but on Netflix/Redbox/Blockbuster = yes)

Olympus has Fallen had better be hilarious, otherwise it’s going to be pretty stinky. Butler doesn’t know wtf he’s doing anymore, I don’t think.

I saw the trailer for Prototype last month, I think it could be sweet. Hopefully.

Honestly, I’m not sold on Pacific Rim. I want more substance behind the flash when it comes to del Toro (and those kinds of flicks in general). I know it’s a lot of people’s dream to see stuff like that on the big screen from a great director, but…eh. At least the trailer didn’t really show me any kind of unique angle to the story. I could be wrong, and I do hope del Toro pulls it off, but I’d rather see him go back to material like Pan’s Labyrinth.

  • Adam January 31, 2013, 12:09 pm

Sir Phobos, I would agree that trailer was mostly flash but I don’t know if that is all del Toro will be bringing to the table. I hope not… fingers crossed he pulls it off.
