O boy looks like we are finally getting some more cool looking trailers worth mentioning. It will not be long till we find ourselves in the middle of summer blockbuster season. Thank goodness because this early winter has been the absolute worst as far as films released at theaters. I almost don’t want to go and give them my money, as I don’t want to support or give the studios any inclination that such films are in any way acceptable.
The Hangover Part III: Who would have guessed that Zach Galifianakis would have a voice like an angel? By this point folks know which of two categories they are going to fall into with regards to these hangover films. Either they find the humor crass and inappropriate or they find it hilarious. My boy was actually walked in the room while I was reviewing trailers and caught the tail end of this one. He thought the giraffe scene was hilarious and forced me to replay the trailer for him. Expect a big turnout for this film when it crashes into theaters on May 24th. Just don’t expect to bring your kids to this one as it will certainly be an adult only affair.
Star Trek Into Darkness: Sorry about that ad I could not locate a trailer without it. I thought they did a decent job with the first film in this reboot. My main complaint was that it did not really capture some of the more cerebral elements of the original series and films. Still not sure if that issue will be alleviated in this second installment. However, the trailer certainly looks action packed. Star Trek Into Darkness beams into theaters on May 17th.
Iron Man 3: Wow! I really like the look of this trailer, comic fanboy overload. As if I was not already excited enough about Kingsley playing the Mandarin, we get a good look at multiple folks in Iron Man suits. Will this film be the largest blockbuster of the year? Why do villains have it in for Tony Stark’s buildings? The answers to all these questions and more may be revealed on May 3rd.
Knights of Badassdom: Peter Dinklage in armor, at first I thought this was a Game of Thrones episode. Even better it is a horror comedy also starring HBO fan favorite Ryan Kwanten (True Blood). A bunch of LARP players some of them unwilling, accidentally summon demons while high on mushrooms. I think I may have actually thought up a similar film premise in my college dorm about fifteen years ago. Me thinks this film could either be terrible or highly amusing. Sadly no release date is available at this time. In fact I read they were still looking for a distributor. So if any of our loyal readers have some spare change laying around you could help bring this to a theater near you.
The Bling Ring: Emma Watson stars in this film directed by Sofia Coppola. Based on true events, this film tells the tale of a bunch of LA kids who go on a robbing spree to support their party party lifestyle. They utilize social networks to track stars whereabouts and plan their heists. Coppola has achieved greatness behind the lens in the past with Lost In Translation so I always hold out hope that she will reach that level of filmmaking again. Will that be the case with The Bling Ring? I am not sure and it looks like I will not find out for a while as this film is set for an initial release in France this June.
So there we have it 3 Early summer blockbusters, a film looking for a distributer and a film by Sofia Coppola that we can’t watch for a while unless we take a vacation to France. Which of these films are you most looking forward to?
