Tremendous Trailer Trash Tuesday, June 11th 2012

PulpTrailerTrash

This may be the best collection of trailers we have put together in a long time.  Be forewarned, some of these are red band trailers.  So if you are susceptible to coming down with a touch of the vapors you may want to proceed with caution.

Runner, Runner:  Ben Affleck and Justin Timberlake, star in this online poker thriller.  After getting hosed by Affleck in an online poker game, college student Timberlake travels to Costa Rica in an attempt to track him down and get his cash back. Nice to see Affleck playing a bad guy in this one and there are crocodiles or maybe alligators, I can’t tell, but I am pretty sure they eat people.   Look for Runner Runner to bust the house when it ante up’s on September 27th.

Filth:  James McAvoy and Imogen Poots star in this film about an out of control cop who goes on a rampage around Christmas in the hopes of getting a promotion and winning back his wife and daughter.  This looks to me like a mix of Trainspotting and The Bad Lieutenant.  That is probably due to the fact that Irvine Welsh wrote both the novel this is based on and Trainspotting.  Wait this film also comes out on September 27th, looks like a busy weekend at the cinemaplex for a lot of folks.

The To Do List:  Aubrey Plaza, Bill Hader, Rachel Bilson and Andy Samberg star in this raunchy coming of age teen comedy.  A high achieving book worm (Plaza) attempts to become sexual experienced prior to heading off to college.  This film was written and directed by Maggie Carey, wife of Bill Hader.  As soon as I saw this film starred Aubrey Plaza I decided I was going to be giving it a watch.  Horrifying parents everywhere, this R rated film opens on July 26th.

Ain’t Them Bodies Saints:  Rooney Mara, Casey Affleck and Ben Foster star in this Terrence Malick film.  Just kidding this movie is actually written and directed by David Lowery.  Affleck takes the fall for his wife after she kills a cop.  He then escapes from prison and makes his way across hot as hell Texas in an attempt to reunite with his wife and his daughter that he has never seen.  This film won a Cinematography and producers award at Cannes and was also nominated for the Grand Prize Jury award.   Look forward to seeing if this film lives up to the hype on August 16th.

I told you we had a sweet set of trailers for you to check out this week didn’t I?  So which of these look interesting to you?  To be honest I think I will probably watch all four of these films when they hit theaters.

I’m sorry, but “Runner Runner” looks really bad… then again I expect that from a movie with JT as the lead. Love him but he needs to give up the acting ghost.

    • Adam June 11, 2013, 11:28 am

Shala, I hope JT does some songs like Elvis used to do in his films. ;-)

  • Shane June 11, 2013, 8:26 am

Filth and The To Do List look great.

I’m not quite sure about Runner Runner.

Can’t watch the trailer for Ain’t Them Body Saints because I have high hopes for that one. I want to go into it knowing as little as possible.

    • Adam June 11, 2013, 11:30 am

Shane I can see a lot of folks interested in Runner Runner due to the online poker angle.

I can see why you might not want to ruin the surprise for Ain’t Them Bodies Saints.

  • ckckred June 11, 2013, 11:12 am

I’m most interested in Ain’t Them Bodies Saints.

    • Adam June 11, 2013, 11:27 am

      you and everyone else ;-)

I have a mini crush on Aubrey Plaza ever since Safety Not Guaranteed so I am looking forward to seeing her in a lead role. ATBS looks interesting as well. I think Runner Runner actually looks interesting. I think Affleck might be able to pull of a decent bad guy and I don’t mind Timberlake as an actor. It has to be better than In Time anyway right?

    • Adam June 11, 2013, 3:11 pm

It has to better than In Time!!!

I actually thought he was pretty good in Southland Tales.

  • Teddy June 11, 2013, 7:21 pm

Hopefully one of the crocodiles eats JT.

    • Adam June 11, 2013, 8:02 pm

Teddy that would be joyous and move this film into contention for my favorite film of the year.

  • Pete Turner (@ilovethatfilm) June 12, 2013, 3:17 am

Not convinced by runner runner. Hated the book of Filth but the trailer looks like the film might be deranged fun!

    • Adam June 12, 2013, 9:58 am

Was the book similar to Trainspotting?

  • Laura Beth @ Perched on a Whim June 12, 2013, 7:01 am

The To Do List looks dangerously funny! I discovered Plaza while watching Portlandia. The cast is fantastically set, it seems. Thanks for sharing. I was unaware of the films existence!

    • Adam June 12, 2013, 9:59 am

Hey thanks for stopping by Laura Beth, Have you seen her in the film Safety Not Guaranteed? That is a great little indie film.

      • Laura Beth @ Perched on a Whim June 18, 2013, 4:55 am

Thanks for your patience in my reply. I have since seen Safety Not Guarunteed, which had been sitting in my Netflix queu. Your question prompted me to watch it, and “a great little indie film” is how I’d describe it. I really enjoyed the performances.

  • Chris June 12, 2013, 7:29 am

I stopped reading after Ben Affleck and Justin Timberlake, star in….

    • Adam June 12, 2013, 10:00 am

Chris, does everyone hate JT? lol

      • Chris June 12, 2013, 10:04 am

        Yes, yes they do…..lol.

  • Kim June 12, 2013, 7:33 am

I don’t know. Nothing I’d go running out to see in the list here. Not in for any more JT in the acting role unless many of the reviews turn out positive. Even if I love Ben Affleck nowadays, meh…Runner Runner not doing it for me.
Filth and Ain’t Them Bodies Saints looks potentially good with a cast I like.
The To Do List look kinda silly. I mean, I might see it if its mega cheap years after its home release..haha!

    • Adam June 12, 2013, 10:01 am

Kim I see what you did there “running out to see” Runner Runner ;-)

  • Tim The Film Guy June 12, 2013, 8:21 am

    Filth looks insane!

    • Adam June 12, 2013, 10:02 am

Tim I am hoping it is crazy in a Trainspotting kind of way. Well minus the dead baby on the ceiling. I don’t need to see anything like that again. ;-)
