Busy busy around these parts. I am in the middle of rearranging the house in anticipation of a new arrival. Only about six more weeks till the real fun starts. O and my mother in law arrives for a two week visit on Thursday.
Seventh Son: Saw this trailer before Pacific Rim last weekend. Strangely, this is the first I had heard of this sword and sorcerey film. Especially considering that it stars Jeff Bridges and Julianne Moore. This film is based on a novel by writer/homophobe Orson Scott Card and is the second film he has being adapted into a film, the other being Enders Game. While I am unfamiliar with the source material I do enjoy me some fantasy films and the cast is solid. Look for spells to be cast and Bridges to have an awesome beard on display when this film opens on January 14th 2014.
Enders Game: A quality cast including Harrison Ford, Ben Kingsley, Viola Davis, Abigail Breslin, and Hailee Steinfeld star in this Sci Fi film about an alien invasion that forces us to use children to defend mankind. What is it with the sudden rash of dystopian stories involving children. Was there a sale at Walmart on these types of stories? This film opens on November 1st and is being boycotted by Geeks Out, over the author, Orson Scott Card’s homophobic statements. I am actually more excited to see this protest than I am to see the film but perhaps I will be presently surprised.
Saving Mr. Banks: Tom Hanks, Ruth Wilson and Colin Farrell star in this film based on the true story of Mary Poppins author P.L. Travers trip from London to Hollywood, to adapt her book into a film. This trailer makes me want to drive down to Disneyland and get on some rides. Will this be the film that gets Hanks another Oscar as he portrays Walt Disney? This film open on December 20th just in time for Christmas.
Oldboy: Spike Lee attempts to become an “honorary Asian man” in this remake of director Chan-wook Park’s epic 2003 film. This film boasts a strong cast with Josh Brolin, Samuel L. Jackson and Elizabeth Olson. We already know the story is awesome, so this should be hard to screw up, fingers crossed. Grab your hammer and head to the theater on October 25th, to watch this twisted tale of revenge. Please do yourself a favor and check out the amazing original if you have not had a chance to do so thus far.
So that is it for the trailer round up for this week. I am certainly looking forward to the remake of Oldboy and Saving Mr. Banks. Which of these four films are most interesting to you and will Tom Hanks win another Oscar for his performance as Uncle Walt? Lastly, what is your take on the protesting of films?
McQueen and Wayne were rumored to both like to hit the sauce a bit.
