Tremendous Trailer Trash Tuesday April 9th

I saw most of these trailers when we doubled down at the Cinema this weekend with Evil Dead and The Place Beyond The Pines.  Those with sensitive ears might want to skip the last trailer for This is the End as it is a Red band trailer and has some cussing.

Carrie: Do we really need a Carrie remake?  Most likely the answer  to that question is a resounding no.  However, since it going to happen regardless of my opinion lets take a look at this trailer starring Chloe Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore.  Hmm that actually looks pretty good I wonder how this is going to end at the prom.  Well good news you can find out for yourself on October 18th just in time for Halloween.

The Purge:  Wow Ethan Hawke is still alive, who knew?  I don’t think he has been in anything worthwhile since Training Day.  Sadly watching this trailer makes me think this trend is going to continue. Either way at the end of the day he owns an island in Nova Scotia and we do not.   Find out if I am wrong, or save your twelve bucks for something better on May 31st when this film comes to a theater near you.

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters:   Ummm no.  Hopefully in the theaters for one week starting August 7th.

This Is The End:  Did you enjoy Pineapple Express?  Can you quote lines from East Bound and Down?  Do you favor the decriminalization of marijuana?  If you answered yes to any or all of these questions get your ass to the theater on June 12th for this raunchy ensemble comedy.

I found this photo of Julianne Moore that I thought was interesting.

These movies look terrible but what is up with that pic of Julianne Moore licking the sword? Any idea where that came from?

    • Adam April 9, 2013, 4:12 pm

Was she auditioning for Kill Bill? I don’t know where it is from.

      • ruth April 10, 2013, 12:16 pm

Ahah, she probably was auditioning for Kill Bill, or some indie samurai movie :D None of these appeal to me I’m afraid, though I’m curious to see how Chloe does as Carrie. That original one is quite hard to top IMO.

        • Adam April 10, 2013, 2:08 pm

Ruth I would agree, that original one still works really well. Wasn’t there a recent made for tv Carrie film as well?

  • scottydynamite April 9, 2013, 4:03 pm

My son is reading the Percy Jackson Novels so I am sure we will be out to see that one. When I was a Californian I ate dinner at WolfGang Pucks on Sunset and sat the next table over from Julianne Moore, sadly she had no sword but was sporting a baseball cap.

  • Adam April 9, 2013, 4:13 pm

Scott I am shocked and disappointed you did not make your move. You like baseball caps you would have had a lot to talk about.

    • scottydynamite April 9, 2013, 5:35 pm

If she was not on a dinner date with someone I may have been more brazen

      • Adam April 9, 2013, 6:46 pm

Should have told her to drop the zero and get with the hero, that always works. ;-)

  • ckckred April 9, 2013, 5:38 pm

I don’t think I’ll be seeing the Carrie remake, though Julianne Moore is one of my favorite actresses. That’s a pretty cool photo.

  • Adam April 9, 2013, 6:47 pm

Ckckred, agreed that looks like a wait till it is streaming sort of film for me as well.

The Purge looks like something that could be awesomely bad, so I may keep an eye on it. As for Carrie, I was intrigued by the teaser a while back, and it mainly caught my interest because of Chloe Moretz, but after the full trailer, eh, I’m not so certain about it anymore. Still probably gonna check it out eventually, but expectations have been lowered.

Totally looking forward to This Is The End, however. (And still waiting for The Place Beyond The Pines to actually release in my town! lol XP)

    • Adam April 10, 2013, 10:01 am

Chole Moretz was the only good thing about Dark Shadows and she might be the only good thing about this Carrie remake. Smart thinking releasing this around Halloween IMO.

      • James April 12, 2013, 4:27 pm

Nope she won’t be the only good thing about it because Moore is in it – and she is awesome :D

Looks like slim pickens. I’ve seen the trailers for then all in the cinema too. This is the end could be brainless fun as would be Scary MoVie opening this weekend. Some ate just guilty pleasures. Heck they snuck in Roman Numeral V for 5 which only movie fans and geeks still know.

    • Adam April 10, 2013, 10:02 am

Mark I can’t even keep track of those Scary movie films in my head at this point. They sort of all blend together.

  • Armand DC April 10, 2013, 5:37 am

“Carrie” looks good enough. “The Purges” is the kind of silly that either goes great or downright terrible. I’m a guilty fan of the Percy books (I guess I had to find something after I finished HP) though not of the movies. “This is the End” looks terrible. I’d give it a watch though.

    • Adam April 10, 2013, 10:08 am

Armand you need to get yourself a copy the complete short stories of Ernest Hemingway, now that is some good reading. Agreed Carrie looks like the best of the lot.

      • Armand DC April 10, 2013, 6:41 pm

What can I say…I’m a sucker for Greek mythos. I think I’m going to be up to that. Haven’t read any Hemingway in my life besides The Old Man and the Sea.

**I have a few issues about the Carrie, but it looks good enough. I just had…well, I expected a lot from it. Believed that Evil Dead might have started a winning streak on horror remakes. Carrie’s TK powers involve awful CGI, but I can forgive. I also hope that they didn’t make Chloe look too pretty for the character.

Cannot wait for This Is The End!! :)

    • Sanclementejedi April 14, 2013, 1:49 pm

As a fan of Pineapple express I would have to agree with that sentiment.

  • Robert (totheescapehatch.com) April 11, 2013, 9:58 am

I actually haven’t seen the original Carrie and the remake doesn’t look that great to me. I’ll definitely be watching the original instead.

I’m slightly more interested in The Purge now that I’ve seen the trailer. Home invasion horror with a futuristic twist? Sounds good.

Percy Jackson is “Ummm no.” indeed. I’m surprised that they made another one. It looks much more derivative of Harry Potter than I thought.

This is the end looks great. Can’t wait.

That pic of Julianne is hot. I used to really dislike her but she’s one of my favorite actresses now.

    • Adam April 11, 2013, 10:07 am

Robert, I think that original Carrie is playing on Netflix, that is certainly worth checking out if you have the chance. It is one of the better Stephen King adaptations.

  • James April 12, 2013, 4:28 pm

I had no interest in This Is The End but I want to check it out for Watson now!

    • Monkeyboy April 13, 2013, 10:53 am

Yeah, interesting to see Watson playing against type. I hope she swears a lot. Ha-ha!

      • Sanclementejedi April 14, 2013, 1:50 pm

That may have been my favorite part of the clip.

  • Monkeyboy April 13, 2013, 10:51 am

Out of those, it’s the new Carrie film, The Purge, and This Is The End that interest me most. I like the idea behind The Purge. The idea sounds pretty crazy, like something John Carpenter might have come up with back in the day. The siege scenario fits with the type of stuff he did.

This Is The End looks like fun, if a bit indulgent. I mean, they’re playing themselves? I think that’s a joke that’ll wear thin after about two minutes.

    • Sanclementejedi April 14, 2013, 1:51 pm

Monkeyboy I can see the comparison to Assault at Precinct 13. Say wasn’t Hawke in the remake to that as well?

  • Daniel Prinn April 18, 2013, 7:33 am

I’m reallllly excited for all these except for Percy Jackson. I’ll probably end up seeing it, but I’m not sure… I’d go in with low expectations.
