With all the terrible movies or undesirable movies being released in the theater I was hoping for a solid week of DVD releases and it seems we have one. There are 4 new releases this week and 2 seem watchable.
First up we have
The Cabin in the Woods
This horror/sci-fi was pretty entertaining and there was a lot of hoopla surrounding it. We did a full review of this film when it was released and you can read it @ http://3guys1movie.com/?p=4209
next up we have
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
This film may be best understood and enjoyed by older people in their twilight years. This film is about a retirement home in India that promised luxury but was less than luxurious. Sweet, touching story unwinds.
and then we have
Kate Perry: Part of Me
Funny that this film is being released because just the other day I was saying “I can’t get me enough Kate Perry.” This documentary is sure to change your life, so don’t miss it.
and finally we have
Hysteria
Well if you wanted to know how, why and who invented the first vibrator, check this film out. Maggie Gyllenhaal stars in yet another movie about sex, I wonder how this one compares to Secretary. Getting an average score on both IMDB and rotten tomatoes but may be worth a look.
That’s it that’s all

I really need to see The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, heard good things about it and the cast looks amazing, though I’m not in my twilight years
It does look pretty good and it is always nice to learn about a different culture. It reminds me of a cross between The Bucket List and Cocoon for some reason and that is why I figured it would be more enjoyed by older folk. The cast is solid.
I will have to buy the Cabin in the Woods, it was a great one.
I thought the film was entertaining but I was not blown away by it. There was so much hype it seemed they were re inventing the horror movie and it did not do that for me. I do think it is worth a veiw or two if you have not already seen it and I wonder what kind of extras the blu ray has.
“Hysteria” was just that: average and harmless, but in a pleasant way. Cabin in the Woods seems to be worth checking out, if only for Ms Weaver.
now caught up with “Cabin”, and I have to say it was a good laugh. Surprisingly sound cast, and some nice and creative ideas in the story line. Not the re-invention of the genre, but an entertaining cross-over bastard (I mean that in a good way
)
My notes on it: http://thomas4cinema.wordpress.com/2012/09/24/the-cabin-in-the-woods-drew-goddard-2012/
The Cabin in the Woods was a real surprise for me. I found it intelligent, fun and an interesting satire on people’s love of reality shows.
