in New on DVD

As I sit here on my day off from work due to Hurricane Sandy I see 5 new dvd’s being released and none of them star Olivia Newton John so in respect of Hurricane Sandy here is a photo I dug up.

First up this week is

The Campaign

While going to see Ted this year I saw the preview for The Campaign and I was eagerly awaiting seeing this in the theater, so we were all lined up for a 3guys review and I dropped the ball and still have yet to see it.  Now Adam and Mark already have their 3guys review ready and so I will see this this week and we will have a 3guys review on a DVD, now this is rare but it does happen.

Next up we

Safety Not Guaranteed

I have heard very little about this film but I am sold on the connection with Little Miss Sunshine.  The plot seems interesting when 3 cynical magazine employees seeking out a paranoid supermarket clerk due to a classified he had posted.  Getting good reviews and looks solid to me.

Next up is

Ruby Sparks

Does anyone know anything about this film?  Decent rating on the tomato and it stars Paul Dano which is yet another Little Miss Sunshine Connection.  For all of our readers please let me know if this is worth checking out.

then we have

First Position

I am not a huge fan of ballet but if you arte into it, then this may be a documentary you may want to watch.  Follows 6 dancers at the Youth America Grand Prix and I guess that is a ballet competition.

Finally we have

Polisse

Winner of the Jury Prize at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival this follows a team of men and women in the crazy world of Child Protection Services, now I have worked in this field most of my life and I do not know if I want to be taking my work home with me but it looks like another solid foreign film.

That’s it that’s all

I truly enjoyed Safety Not Guaranteed, I found it to be a very fun sci-fi meets rom-com effort. I’m a big fan of Aubrey Plaza and Mark Duplass and think both did an excellent job, their acting never feels forced, probably because of all of their background improvising in film. Great post!

I’ve been really slacking in the movie department. I really want to watch The Campaign and Safety not Guarantee. Aubrey Plaza is so funny in Parks and Rec. From the previews, it seems like Plaza is playing the same character in the movie as in the TV show.

Ruby Sparks was mildly entertaining, but something held me back from loving it, maybe it was the lack of surprises, and that Paul Dano has been played that awkward geek character before. In my opinion, didn’t quite live up to the promise of the concept.

Safety Not Guaranteed was a great little movie. Funny, touching, and dramatic in all the right places. Everyone should check it out.

I really enjoyed Safety Not Guaranteed, but was very disappointed with The Campaign. Still looking forward to checking out Ruby Sparks as I’ve read good things about it.
