New on DVD (March 11, 2013)

New On DVD

6 new releases this week with a couple of real quality films.

First up we have

Life of Pi

March 11th LOP

I was a big fan of this film and is a visual masterpiece.  I did a full write-up on the film a while back which you can read @http://3guys1movie.com/life-of-pi-2/     Certainly worth a watch.

next we have

Rise of the Guardians

March 11th ROG

Wanted to check this one out at my local theater the Elms Draught House last week but never got around to it.  I will certainly be renting this in the coming weeks for Family Movie Night at the Anderson’s.  Looked entertaining from the trailer.

and then

March 11th Hitch

I swear Adam said he watched this but it does not exist until he posts a review of the film.  This looked interesting and I will be checking this one out soon.

next we have

Cirque Du Soleil 3D

March 11th Cirque

I have no real need to see a film about a live circus show but to each his or her own.  I did catch a cirque show at our local casino and was more than pleased with the free tickets.

and then we have

March 11th Smashed

From what I have read and seen this film about a couple that likes to get their drink on, but like with most things, too much of anything is bad news.  Getting good reviews and decent feedback from audiences so I may queue this one up.

and finally we have

March 11th Sky

There was a special release of Skyfall a couple of weeks ago but this is the real deal.  We did a full write-up on this film and I was the lease enthusiastic about then the other 2 but it was still a very good movie. Check out our review @ http://3guys1movie.com/skyfall/

That’s it that’s all

I have seen Skyfall and Hitchcock and they are both worth a rental for sure. I don’t think I would shell out cash to pay full price to purchase either one. But on sale in a bit perhaps.

I am waiting for your write up on Hitchcock.

    • Adam March 11, 2013, 3:51 pm

you might have to keep waiting for a bit i just watched the Master last night, wow still trying to wrap my head around it.

  • Aurora March 11, 2013, 4:17 pm

Hello! Stopped in as you asked when you left a comment on my “Ignored by Oscar” post and then realized, I’VE BEEN HERE BEFORE! Will add you to my blogroll soon too. Great stuff. This will keep me up to date with new releases.

      Hey Aurora,
Thanks for stopping by, every Monday night we do this post.

Hitchcock should have been way better with that cast, it really doesn’t give you much insight into the actual making of Psycho besides that Hitch made Psycho. He is my favorite director and I was expecting a lot more from that movie.

    • scottydynamite March 11, 2013, 5:52 pm

i am sorry to hear that I was really looking forward to watching that one

  • Stephanie March 11, 2013, 9:50 pm

I am looking forward to Life of Pi and Smashed.

    • scottydynamite March 12, 2013, 6:19 am

I cannot say a word about Smashed besides I am looking forward to seeing it but Life of Pi was really good story telling and a visual gem.

For the kids and adults I’d recommend Rise of the Guardians. It got lost in the Christmas hustle but is appealing to young and old in story and visuals. The voice work was excellent as well.

    • scottydynamite March 12, 2013, 6:20 am

I am glad to hear that, I really wanted to see it and so do my kids. I may do a write up after we veiw it this weekend.

By DVD, do you mean Blu-ray?

    • scottydynamite March 12, 2013, 9:49 am

      New on Blu-Ray?

      • Chris March 12, 2013, 9:50 am

Do you usually buy DVD or Blu-ray?

        • scottydynamite March 12, 2013, 9:55 am

The only blu-ray player I have is on my computer so if I were to buy one it would be a DVD. That being said I rarely buy DVDs or Blu-Rays.

          • Adam March 12, 2013, 11:14 am

Scott you should look into that they went way down in price. I picked up one for $46 at Target that streams hulu, netflix, and YouTube.

  • scottydynamite March 12, 2013, 11:25 am

I figured the XBOX infinity is going to have one, right?

    • Adam March 12, 2013, 11:39 am

I would be shocked if it did not.

  • Pete Turner (@ilovethatfilm) March 12, 2013, 12:34 pm

Nice! Skyfall and Life of Pi great. Hitchcock not so much unfortunately!

    • scottydynamite March 12, 2013, 1:04 pm

Yeah starting to feel as though Hitchcock need not be seen by thine eyes

      • Adam March 12, 2013, 2:25 pm

well it was a lot better than that HBO film The Girl that was also about Hitchcock

  • Josh March 12, 2013, 5:58 pm

Watched Life of Pi last night and wow what a beautiful movie. There were indeed some flaws but still really good and awesome cinematography and visual effects.

I got Rise of the Guardians too but havent got around to watching yet. I love Hitchcock as a director so I’ll watch Hitchcock at some point but I am hesitant after all the mediocre reviews I saw for it.

    • scottydynamite March 12, 2013, 6:08 pm

Not much good being said about Hitchcock which is disappointing. I will probably see Guardians this weekend. Thanks for stopping by Josh. I am heading over to your site as I type.

      • scottydynamite March 12, 2013, 6:09 pm

        No site just a gravatar.

        • Josh March 12, 2013, 9:21 pm

Not sure I understand that last comment there.

But yeah, very disappointing that Hitchcock hasn’t had much good said about it. Though I haven’t heard anything horrible, either. Just being a big Hitchcock fan, I was hoping for so much better.

          • Adam March 13, 2013, 12:51 am

Josh I think Scott was saying that you do not have a link back to your blog Coachpotatoclub.com on your grvatar page. When people click you grvatar they can’t find you.

          • scottydynamite March 13, 2013, 4:01 am

Yeah Josh, whenever someone visitis and leaves a comment I like to go their webpage and return the favor. Your gravatar has no link to your site so I was unable to visits your site through your gravatar.

        • Josh March 13, 2013, 4:04 am

Gotcha. Didnt realize my gravatar profile wasnt set up. I was just confused cause clicking on my name here (instead of the picture) takes you right to my site.

But thanks for pointing the gravatar thing out. I went and updated it a bit.
