in New on DVD

5 new releases to discuss this week and I have not seen one of these films, there are a couple I would like to see but it does not look like a strong week by any stretch of the imagination.

First up we have

Flight

Denzel Washington stars in this what is being sold as an action packed thriller, I have read some good things about this film and I would be psyched if Mr. Washington got back into making good films.   I cannot remember the last Denzel film that I thought was more than okay.

Next up we have

Here Comes the Boom

I cannot stand Kevin James and most of what he does is just not funny to me, I know people who find him incredibly amusing I am just not one of those people.  The good news is that this film also has the Fonz, Henry Winkler in it.

then we have

Alex Cross

When I saw this trailer in the theater I remember being excited to watch this movie, well I never did get out to watch it and probably won’t for some time.  Mathew Fox has been an actor that I have watched since Party of Five, if anyone remembers that one.  I also enjoyed him in Lost but I cannot remember a movie with him in it that I liked, maybe Alex Cross will change my mind.

and then we have

Celeste and Jesse Forever

I do not like the title of this film and Adam Sandberg is only funny in “The Lonely Island” music spoofs and occasionally when he was on SNL.  This film is getting decent reviews so I may watch this one.

and last and probably least we have

So Undercover

I never thought anything of Miley Cyrus and that continues to this day, this film looks straight up stupid in every single way.   Basically this film will never find its’ way onto my TV.

That’s it that’s all

I’ve heard plenty of good things about Flight and Celeste and Jesse Forever so I might check them out. Here Comes The Boom, Alex Cross, and So Undercover on the other hand…

Those two look to be the most watchable. For some reason I have interest in Alex Cross but I know it will be terrible.

JEREMY PIVEN WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?

I could spot him a few bucks if it means he doesn’t have to be in shit like So Undercover.

Yeah huh? Piven will be in the next Sin City project so that is good news.

Good. That should wash some of the stink away.

I saw Flight and its a movie heavy with message and tough scenes. While the drug and booze I addiction is well portrayed its just a tad much. As for Alex Cross choreographed WWE is more believable than this sludge in fight scenes and story holes. I pass on anything with the so called stars of Mike and Molly. Skip’em all week.

They may be some good advice.

I find it a bit outrageous that Flight is advertised as action-packed thriller. It is neither action-packed nor a thriller. Denzel Washington is very good and the first 20 minutes of the film is pretty impressive but otherwise it is a quite disappointing drama.

When I was reading it I was a little taken by that also, it did not seem right.

Really looking forward to Flight, not so much ‘Here Comes the Boom’. I think I’ll rent Flight on Blu-ray though rather than DVD.

Flight looks like a decent film, from reports it was just okay though so do not go in with expectations blazing. Thanks for the comment.
