Recently director Roland Emmerich has been making the rounds on a press tour promoting his soon to be released film White House Down. Is it just me or does it seem like Emmerich has a thing for blowing up the White House? Anyhow, durring Q&A about the film with Movies.com Emmerich provided some details about the upcoming Independence Day 2 film. Apparently both Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum will be appearing in the film. It is not clear what there level of involvement will be at this point as the original film was released almost seventeen years ago.
Captured one alien in Independence Day.
However, in a development that is sure to draw mixed reactions Will Smith is at this point not involved in the film. Emmerich stated that Smith was too expensive at this point to be cast in the film. He also stated he was too much of a big time star to appear in the film. I am not sure how much sense that second comment makes. Emmerich did state that he hopes perhaps Smith will agree to do a cameo in the film. Sadly, Emmerich did not discuss the greatest actor to appear in the original film and if he will make an appearance in the sequel. Of course, I am talking about screen legend Randy Quaid. But how can Randy Quaid appear in the sequel to Independence day if he perished in the first film saving the world from aliens? I am thinking his role could be similar to that of Alec Guinness in The Empire Strikes Back.
Destroys shit load of aliens and blows up mothership saving the world in Independence Day.
What is your take on Will Smith not appearing in the sequel to Independence Day?
