First Look Friday December 30th 2011

Well its the last Friday of 2011 and the last of the new movies being released this year.  Not much new to see but here goes anyway.

Meryl Streep stars as former British PM Margret Thatcher in this Oscar buzz generating film.  Not my kind of film but if this is your cup of tea the film opens this weekend.

Woo hoo an artsy foreign film.  A Separation focuses on the dilemma of whether a couple should escape from Iran with their young daughter to have a better or life or to stay in Iran to help a relative dealing with Alzheimer’s disease.  Hmmm, lets see stay in Iran with someone who doesn’t recall your name or escape with your daughter before she has to wear a bag on her head out in public and gets hit with a switch if she shows her ankles.  That’s a tough call and where is my passport?  Seriously though this film has some pretty high metrics on IMDB and could be worth checking out.

The last new film that I will be mentioning is Ed Burns new film Newlyweds.  I like Ed Burns he’s like Woody Allen but without being so weird I wouldn’t want to be in an elevator with him.  He also seems to have an excellent selection of hats.  The most interesting thing about this film is Burns shot the whole thing with a $9,000 budget.  Yup you heard me right he made this film for less than I paid for my 2000 Crown Victoria.   How did he do that you might ask.  Well check out the details over here in this article at filmmaker http://www.filmmakermagazine.com/news/2011/03/breaking-down-ed-burns-9000-shooting-budget/.

A bag over her head? And despite the political situation in any country it’s hard for adults to leave their extended families behind.

Also I thought A Separation was about divorce.
